Abstract: The Medical Engineering Service (SIM) of the Policlinico Tor Vergata of Rome has designed and tested a process of proactive maintenance, inspired by the “Safety walkarounds”. Proactive maintenance aims to optimize the comprehensive handling of medical equipment, and allow to capture those input that escape the traditional process of a hospital engineering service (maintenance, health technology assessment, testing, etc.), such as the risk factors, the need for training programs, legislative requirements respect. The implementation of a proactive maintenance program allows the SIM to learn more about the medical equipment in the real context of use; proactive maintenance can play a significant role in the achievement of clinical governance in relation to aspects of technology management biomedical.
